Surah Kahf, Verse 109

Verse 109: {“If the sea were ink for writing the Words of my Lord, surely, the sea would be exhausted before the Words of my Lord would be finished, even if we brought another sea like it.”}

Ibn Kathir made a beautiful comment on this verse:

“If the water of all the oceans and seas were ink for a pen to write the Words of Allah and His judgments and signs that all point to Him…and all of the trees were made into pens for this, the pens would break, the water of the oceans would be used up, and the Words of Allah would remain and would not disappear. This is because nobody can appreciate His Ability or praise Him as He deserves except when He praises Himself.

Our Lord is as He Says He is, and is even better than He Says He is. The comparison of the pleasures of this world from its beginning to its end to the pleasures of the Hereafter is like that of a mustard seed compared to the entire Earth.”

[‘Tafsir al-Qur’an al-‘Adhim’; 3/101, 104, 133, and 145]
